Penn Lab Supplies Reuse and Donation Program
On this Page
Description
The Penn Lab Supplies Reuse and Donation Program supports waste reduction and sustainability efforts across Penn laboratories. This initiative is a collaboration between Green Labs at Penn, Penn Eco-Reps, the Office of Environmental Health and Radiation Safety (EHRS), and the Penn Sustainability Office.
With a growing research footprint, Penn Laboratories generate surplus materials that can be safely reused. This program facilitates the donation and redistribution of excess supplies—such as glassware, plasticware, consumables, equipment, and instruments—to other Penn labs, student organizations, and Philadelphia public schools.
The Lab Supplies Reuse and Donation Program provides:
- An online inventory of available lab supplies
- Guidance for donating and requesting supplies
- Safety protocols for decontamination, labeling, and handling
All donated supplies must be odor-free, sanitized, decontaminated, easily movable (under 25 pounds), and labeled with the Principal Investigator’s name and contact information.

How can I find funding opportunities relevant to my research area?
Internal funding opportunities supported by the OVPR and Penn is a great first step – many of these are listed under our funding tab and can be searched by various filters like research area. Penn also provides all faculty, staff, and postdocs with access to the Spin Sponsored Funding Database, a large database of sponsored research funding opportunities. This is a good place to explore and get a sense of what funding opportunities align with your research area.
