In late September, as part of its Research Excellence initiative, the Office of the Vice Provost for Research sponsored an Electronic Research Notebook Days program. Over 100 participants came together over the course of two days for introductory and advanced training on using LabArchives, Penn’s enterprise electronic research notebook solution.

Dawn Bonnell, Vice Provost for Research, opened both days and affirmed how tools like LabArchives contribute to elevating research excellence at Penn. Sessions also included presentations from investigators currently utilizing the system. Attendees included faculty, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and research staff, spanning diverse fields of research.

Last summer the Vice Provost for Research and the Vice Provost of Education began offering the LabArchives Electronic Research Notebook system for researchers, instructors, and students. LabArchives offers Penn Researchers free access to a modern, secure, cloud-based method of managing their lab data. It also offers Penn instructors a robust collaboration and instruction platform.

Interested researchers and instructors looking to get started with the system can create an account and find information on the Electronic Research Notebooks website’s getting started page. They can also add themselves to a Penn email list for our community of LabArchives users, which is an opt-in list to share ideas, templates, and help, as well as to receive periodic updates on the service at Penn. To sign up, enter an email address in the purple “Subscribe” box on the Penn Research Notebooks homepage.
