Jennifer Davis, DVM, DACLAM, CPIA appointed Director of Animal Welfare Programs and Operations
Senior Vice Provost for Research Dawn Bonnell is pleased to announce the appointment of Jennifer Davis, DVM, DACLAM, CPIA as Director of Animal Welfare Programs and Operations.
In this role Jennifer is responsible for the oversight of regulatory compliance, post-approval monitoring, and administration of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). She will oversee the units focused on compliance and post-approval monitoring, and administrative aspects of the protocol review process, including the staff support of IACUC. Among her many responsibilities she will continue as a voting member of the IACUC and act as the main source of contact between IACUC reviewers and investigators to provide feedback on the findings and recommendations of the IACUC. She will also represent the IACUC in Institutional leadership and animal research initiatives.
Jennifer received her veterinary degree from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine, followed by a small animal rotating internship at the West Los Angeles Animal Hospital in Los Angeles, CA. In addition to spending many years in both private practice and emergency/critical care of companion animals, Jennifer also has extensive experience in cardiovascular models using swine and mice at the Medical University of South Carolina (Charleston) and at Emory University (Atlanta, GA). Jennifer went on to complete a laboratory animal medicine (LAM) residency at Emory University and Yerkes National Primate Research Center, and gained board certification in LAM in 2014. Since joining the University of Pennsylvania in 2013, Jennifer has served as the Compliance Veterinarian and the Associate Director for Compliance within the OAW, and has acted as Interim Director of the Office of Animal Welfare since February 2022. Her many years of excellent service at Penn has positioned her well for this crucial leadership role.
In addition to Jennifer’s permanent appointment as Director of Animal Welfare Programs and Operations, Gregory Reinhard MBA, DVM, DACLAM, CPIA will continue in his leadership role as Senior Director of Animal Welfare Strategy and Regulatory Support.
